چکیده

The off-the-shelf virtual reality community is well aware of the wide variety of inexpensive and robust tracking and display technologies that have emerged in the marketplace in recent years. However, there has also been a vast improvement in the accessibility and usability of hobbyist-grade electronics components, which make incorporating lower-level sensing and actuation components into virtual reality systems feasible for even novices in electronics. This article discusses a variety of ways that off-the-shelf electronics can be leveraged in virtual reality experiences, the knowledge required to begin exploring possibilities, and case studies in prototyping. Keywords: off-the-shelf virtual reality, electronics Index Terms: D.2.m Miscellaneous: Rapid prototyping H.5.1 Multimedia Information Systems: Artificial, augmented, and virtual realities

A Low-cost Distributed IoT-based Augmented Reality Interactive Simulator For Team Training

The performance over cost ratio of last generation off the shelf devices enables the design of heterogeneous distributed computing systems capable of supporting the implementation of an immersive Virtual Reality, Internet of Things based training support architecture. In this paper we present our work in progress on a low cost distributed immersive simulation system for the training of teams by...

Prototyping QoS based Architecture for Power Plant Control Applications

The goal of the project in this paper is to gain experience on QoS (Quality of Service) based distributed system for EDF's power control applications. EDF is the French power utility. QoS is related to time constraints in our case. We adopted a distributed system approach to build our execution platform. The first prototype uses a modified ChorusOS micro-kernel with a real-time inter-process co...

Development of virtual environments for Mechanical Engineering

We outline a procedure for implementing a virtual CNC lathe prototype using software for creating virtual environments. The prototype constructed focus on the lathe’s interlocking system (its functionality) and on its geometric model (its physical design). This project allowed us to identify the possibilities and limitations of applying current Virtual Reality technology for virtual prototyping...

Network virtualization substrate with parallelized data plane

Network virtualization provides the ability to run multiple concurrent virtual networks over a shared substrate. However, it is challenging to design such a platform to host multiple heterogenous and often highly customized virtual networks. Not only high degree of flexibility is desired for virtual networks to customize their functions, fast packet forwarding is also required. This paper prese...

Electronics Development of Silicon Microdisplay for Virtual Reality Applications

We have developed a highly integrated liquid-crystal-on-silicon microdisplay for virtual reality applications. The silicon display panel was designed and fabricated by a custom 0.5 m 3-metal CMOS technology. We further utilized field programmable gate array to implement a color sequential technique for driving this display panel. 4 bits per color of the display was demonstrated. The use of FPGA...
